Grizabella Then and Now Ma-Anne Dionisio, Star of Upcoming All-Canadian “Cats”Meets Betty Buckley, Tony Award-winning Star of Original Broadway Cast The inevitable happened at Betty Buckley’s concert at Richmond Hill’s Performing Arts Centre this week. Following a program of songs from her most recent CD “Ah, Men! – The Boys of Broadway,” she thrillingly and dramatically sang, as her encore, her signature number, “Memory.”
Selling “Kitty Glitter” How UK advertising agency Dewynters sold Cats to the world. When Cats had its world premiere in 1981 at the West End’s New London Theatre, not only was it the birth of the first mega-musical, but also the launch of an innovative marketing strategy.
Betty Buckley… Theatre, Film and TV Great…Comes To Richmond Hill Performing Arts Centre This Thursday, May 9th “Cats,” “Pippin,” “Drood” and “Sunset Blvd.” Among Theatrical Hits Without a doubt, Betty Buckley is one of the most thrilling musical theatre entertainers I’ve ever seen. Whether bringing to stunning life Grizabella in “Cats,” Norma Desmond in “Sunset Boulevard, Catherine in the original Bob Fosse production of “Pippin,” or Carrie’s mother in the notorious 1988 production of “Carrie,” Buckley guarantees “goosebumps.”
From Stage to Screen David Krane, Then and Now: “Kiss of the Spider Woman” Toronto, London, Broadway (1992-3) / Sondheim’s “Into the Woods,” the World (Coming soon to a Theatre near You) Veteran composer/arranger reunites with “KSW” colleague Rob Marshall, Director of Oscar-winning “Chicago” It was 20 years ago today… Celebrating Friday’s 20th anniversary of the Kander & Ebb / Hal Prince Musical “Kiss of the Spider Woman" today (Friday, May 3rd) isn’t the only thing Broadway/Hollywood musical maven David Krane and movie director/choreographer Rob Marshall share.
William Finn “Astounded” by Toronto Falsettos Composer/Lyricist of Pioneering Musical Said Direction was “Finest in 10 years” It’s not every day that the creator of a Tony Award-winning musical, especially one that’s widely considered to be ground-breaking, sees a Toronto production of his work and then showers it with praise.
Shaw Festival’s Guys and Dolls Premieres Next Saturday Night It’s “a probable twelve to seven” Guys and Dolls will be the hit of the summer! I love Frank Loesser’s Guys and Dolls a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.
Over the years, since I've been recording, I have to say that Dane Taylor and Bob Sagman of Song & Script have been instrumental in promoting my recordings. Not only mine, but all the worthwhile recordings anyone in my business would care to listen to.
I have always been impressed with their vast knowledge of the musical theatre repertoire as well as other genres but also, and perhaps most importantly, with their enthusiasm and love of the music they sell. I have appreciated their support and informed recommendations to me whenever I've been in their store. It is a gem of a store and I applaud them.
Very affectionately,
Louise Pitre
